What is the difference between borosilicate and soda-lime glass for school labs?
Borosilicate glass (used in all our laboratory glassware) has a very low thermal expansion coefficient, so it resists sudden temperature changes. You can heat it directly with a Bunsen burner without it cracking. Soda-lime glass (used in everyday bottles and windows) will crack when heated or cooled rapidly.
