Are safety goggles and lab coats mandatory for WAEC practical examinations?

Yes. WAEC practical exam regulations require all students to wear safety goggles and lab coats for chemistry practicals. Students without proper PPE may be refused entry to the practical exam hall. KNEC biology and chemistry practicals have the same requirement. Schools must supply safety equipment to all students before practical examinations.

What is the difference between safety goggles and safety spectacles?

Safety spectacles — like regular glasses with side shields — protect against mechanical hazards such as flying particles. Safety goggles fully enclose the eye socket and protect against chemical splashes, vapours, and liquids. For school chemistry labs, safety goggles (indirect vent type for acid/base work) are required. Safety spectacles don't provide enough protection for chemistry practicals.
